World of Warcraft Introduces the Worldsoul Saga, the Game’s Next Three Expansions

Blizzard’s MMO,World of Warcraftis set to be one of the longest-running games in history. Announced during the weekend ofBlizzCon 2023was the “Worldsoul Saga”, comprising the game’s next three expansions. This will include 2024’s “The War Within”, followed by “Midnight”, and will culminate in “The Last Titan”.

Only the general ideas of Midnight and The Last Titan were revealed, but more information was released on The War Within. The Worldsoul Saga will be the next step in tying up the storytelling of WoW’s past 20 years and will bridge the gap between a new narrative arc that will be coming soon.

World of Warcraft - A Tortured Anduin

World of Warcraft: The War Within

Coming in 2024 will be World of Warcraft’s 10th expansion, The War Within. It was initially featured as a cinematic trailer that has a traumatized Anduin and Thrall discussing the visions and voices that have been calling out to them. The cinematic truly shows that Blizzard’s marketing department is still truly on top of its game, as it featured an extremely lifelike look at Anduin. Viewers can easily see the emotion and nuance on his face, removing the odd feeling known as the “uncanny valley” that often comes along with computer-generated humans.

The War Within will bring players into the core of Azeroth, deep further into the unknown. A large focus of this will be the massively gigantic sword that Sargeras flung way back in the Legion expansion. A massive gaping wound in the land is no longer something that the population can ignore.

World of Warcraft - Group Up for Delves

Adventurers will be treated to four new zones, ripe for exploration. This includes the subterranean depths of the Nerubian empire, Khaz Algar. But before that, players will need to land on the Isle of Dorn and fight their way through the Ringing Deeps. Eventually, they will reach the Nerubian capital itself, Azj-Kahet, and face off against the terrors below.

Dungeon Delvers

One new major feature being added to World of Warcraft via The War Within is the Delve system. Think of these as new endgame areas that players can tackle with smaller groups (between 1-4 players) as they are accompanied by an NPC. Characters of any class and any specialization can partake, so there’s no need to create a perfect group beforehand. Challenges include combat, puzzles, and much more. Lastly, Delves are being considered “Seasonal Content” meaning there could be a lot of changes and updates along the way. More importantly, there will be tons of Epic loot.

Of course, the traditional endgame activities such as Raids and Dungeons will still make their way into World of Warcraft’s latest expansion.

The Most Anticipated Games & Releases of August

Another feature being expanded is World of Warcraft:Dragonflight’sDynamic Flyingsystem. Instead of being limited to only Dragonflight Dragons, the amazing new flying mechanics are being implemented across the board to other flying mounts. Even the Druid’s Flight Form is being affected, making sure our shapeshifting friends still get in on the fun.

I Need a Hero

The War Within is also introducing “Hero Talents” to the game, which are some passive abilities that will help differentiate player characters with various roles from the in-game lore. For Example, Balance Druids can choose to become Keepers of the Grove that specialize in raising treants, or they can become one of Elune’s Chosen and focus on using moon magic.

Each character class will get three to four Hero Talent choices each, depending on how many specializations they already have. Blizzard did tease a list of all of the Hero Talent tree names, but not what kind of passives they include. Some interesting ones are the Deathbringer Deathknights, Deathstalker Roague, Farseer Shaman (hello thrall), Diabolist Warlock, and the Colossus Warrior.

World of Warcraft Forever

The Worldsoul Saga looks to be cementing World of Warcraft’s presence into the online game world for many years to come. Considering that The War Within releases next year, and if we follow Blizzard’s current cadence ofan expansion every two years, players might get The Last Titan by 2028. However, Blizzard did tease that they wish that they could get expansions out to players faster but did not mention any specifics.

World of Warcraft’s The War Within is now available for preorder in three different editions: Basic, Heroic, and Epic. The Heroic Edition nets you some new cosmetics or mounts, but the Epic Edition grants guaranteed Beta Access, 30 days of game time, and 3 Days Early Access to the expansion when it fully launches on retail.
