One of the biggest improvements of Grounded 2 over its predecessor is the ability to hop onto a mount, such as an ant, and traverse the vast world with your trusty companion. It’s not just you, though, as all your friends in a game can also saddle up and obtain their very own mount with relative ease. Getting to the point of where you can obtain a mount is fairly early on, but you will need to hold off on getting lost in the shiny new world.
10 Best Games by Obsidian Entertainment
Obsidian has mastered RPG storytelling and these ten games showcase the studio at its very best.
Progressing the Story
While the vast world will no doubt entice you to go out and explore, the first thing you should actually do is progress the story a bit. Once you’ve unlocked the main base of operations and start crafting, instead of getting too far into the weeds of exploration, you will obtain a quest with an objective simply “Follow Sloane’s coordinates.”
This story quest will lead you back close to where you entered the park, just outside where you woke up. From here, you will dive into a relatively passive ant farm until you come across some boulders that need busting. After using your trusty Omni-Tool, you will find a rather violent Red Soldier Ant behind it. You will need to kill it with whatever you crafted at camp (hopefully a spear).

After doing so, pick up the message from the Ominent employee who unfortunately did not make it. This will give you a better understanding of what Employee 427 was working on: mounts. With all this exciting news, report back to Sloane, who will then give you another task of finding out more about riding ants.
Building a Hatchery
From here, you will obtain new structures to build, one of which is a hatchery, one that’s meant to hold an ant egg so it can hatch into your new companion. You will need some specific materials to craft it, though:
The Mite Fuzz can be obtained from those annoying little red Mites you’ve probably been swatting away with fair ease. The others are located relatively close to the main base. You will want to go directly south and southwest until you find thick, brown tree-like weeds that can be hacked and slashed down with a standard Omni-Tool. The acorns, on the other hand, will require you to go deep into this territory, specifically under the tree, to find five shells.

After you’ve built the hatchery, the next objective is actually obtaining a Soldier Ant Egg from a farm.
Into the Farm
Follow the marker into a large farm and head downward. Most of the ants will be passive, but the soldier ants will see you as a threat, so be careful. The first intersection will be greeted by a familiar site: an Ominent computer station. Hug a left and then at the end of the section another left. At this point, all you need to do is follow the path and watch out for Red Soldier Ants.
You will come across a station where you can sleep or replenish your water, along with some snacks and bandages if you’ve gotten hurt. Continue forth until you come across an egg behind a glass, seemingly in an incubation container. You’re essentially halfway at this point. Continue forward and the next area will be a Red Soldier Ant that you will need to take care of, with a number of Soldier Ant Eggs spread around a table.

Grab one, and you’ll notice that it’s not something you can put in your backpack, but instead needs to be carried with one hand. Continue along the path, and you’ll have to face off against various ants, as whenever you’re hit, the egg will fall. When you get to the exit, any ant you encounter along your way back to base will chase you until you kill them. They don’t take kindly of you taking one of their brothers.
After getting back to base, put theSolider Ant Eggin theHatchery, and you’ll have to wait12 hours in-game. If you’re close to nighttime, you can sleep, but otherwise go explore until the 12 hours are up. Afterward, head back to the hatchery and claim your mount.
