Welcome to another great month of RPGs! Last month our top spot went to the tactical XCOM inspired RPGWasteland 3, bringing its own brand of justice to the post-apocalyptic Colorado. This month we get a good mix of indie titles, tactical turn-based (which we can never get enough of), survival and plenty of action. So without further ado, let’s get into the month of September!

Honourable Mention: The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon DLC

The quirky sci-fi Action-RPGThe Outer Worldswill be getting a newDLCknown as thePeril of Gorgon. The downloable content features a brand new story where your crew will explore a number of new areas, as you try to unearth salacious secrets about the Gorgon Project. The narrative follows a mysterious asteroid which by the name of the DLC probably isn’t the safest.

Peril on Gorgon will also raise the level cap from the original 30 to 33, also introducing players a host of new perks and flaws to go with them. Gain some useful upgrades for your science weapons as you face new threats with unique moves and damage types, all set in a biosphere like no other.

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgonwill be releasing on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC on September 9th 2020 which can be  purchased separately or as part of the The Outer Worlds Expansion Pass.

5. Artificer: Science of Magic

Release Date: September 2020

Publisher: Games Operators

Next on our list is the spellcrafting survival RPG Artificer: Science of Magic. Put your research and practical arcane powers to the test on the hostile planet of Alcor. As a science officer you were suppose to be on another routine research trip but your ship crashes, landing you on dangerous planet. Using your resourcefulness and know-how to defend yourself against the dangerous creatures that lurk. As you dive deeper into the world, you will uncover new recipes and rituals through mystical research, enhancing your magic.

There’s plenty of knowledge to obtain including conducting magical experiments, stealing arcane secrets from ancient runes and learning alien language to decipher magical grimoires. you’re able to also fight monsters, dissect them to learn more about their weaknesses and what make them tick. All this is to solve the biggest quest of finding your way home.

4. Star Renegades

Release Date: September 8th

Developer: Massive Damage Inc.

Publisher: Raw Fury

If you’re looking for a tactical rogue-lite RPG that combines merciless adversaries with a turn-based combat system with interrupts, counters and combos, then Star Renegades if what you’re after. This fast-paced sci-fi set game uses a timeline battle system, which will pit you against foes that evolve as you play. Stop the evil authoritarian empire from taking over, and join the interplanetary rebellion.

With plenty of unlockable weapons for your rebels, loot and gear is at your disposal, all can be upgraded and traded. Described as a “tactical JRPG fighting system” by the devs Massive Damage, Inc, which includes group-based combat, all done in a pixel cartoon artstyle. You’ll have to have your wits about you as you experience the reactive gameplay that has no RNG, and relies on your moves to take down the enemy officers.

3. Necromunda: Underhive Wars

Release Date: September 14th

Necromunda: Underhive Wars is a tactical-RPG based on the tabletop universe of the same name. Necromunda is from the same tabletop creator Games Workshop who started the franchise in 1995, as a skirmishing spin-off from their Warhammer 40,000 franchise.

In thistactical RPGplayers will not be facing huge battlefields with entire armies and machines, instead Necromunda puts players into a warring world of gangs in search of treasures and dominating the universe. You will get to grow your very own gang of Eshcer, Goliath and Orlock. Each member of your team can be specialised and sent into battle, encountering some dangerous dystopian environments along the way.

Use the terrain to your advantage, climb walkways to gain higher ground, set traps for unsuspecting enemies and ambush foes to engage in bloody close ranged attacks. Necromunda includes a number of new skills to learn, loot to equip, and even bring your gang to fight online in 4-player fights. Take on three games modes, story campaign, operations and multi/single-player skirmishes.

2. Genshin Impact

Release Date: September 28th 2020

Platform: PC/iOS/Android

Developer: MiHoyo

Publisher: MiHoyo

This month the online Action-RPG Genshin Impact finally makes it way to PC and mobile devices. Genshin Impact follows the tale of siblings, who become separated. Following one half of the duo, you end up in the world of Teyvat. Along the way you will meet a host of heroes who are also in need of your help.

Genshin Impact is heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but brings its own unique combat, offering a flexible combat system, allowing you swap characters on the fly. It’s a single player game but also offers online co-op so you can team up with friends for world events and dungeons. Choose your favourite characters to play, learn their abilities and even combo their elemental powers to best the enemies ahead. You can explore the open-world of Teyvat and embark on a magical adventure full of cute characters, especially Paimon who is a pint-sized sassy side-kick, not emergency food.

Genshin Impactwill release on September 28th on PC, iOS and Android.

1. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning

Release Date: September 8th 2020

Developer: KAIKO, Big Huge Games

Publisher: THQ Nordic

The remaster of the 2012 Action-RPG published by Electronics Arts and developed by 39 Studios, has been remastered under Kaiko and THQ Nordic. The remaster of the RPG classic which is called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning launches this September. Adventure into the Amalur to unravel its secrets of the Faelands as the chosen Fateless One.

It has the minds of R.A. Salvatore, the fantasy writer behind the lore inspired by Celtic Mythology, the comic artist Todd McFarlane known for Spawn, and lead designer Ken Rolston who worked on Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The title sets to bring “stunning visuals and refined gameplay” in this remaster.

Players will get to build their character to their preferred playstyle, with numerous combinations in terms of skills, abilities, weapons and armor. You can mix magical and melee attacks, executing the final blow with Fateshift kills.

The Re-Reckoning sets to include all previous downloadable content ranging from Teeth of Naros to Legend of Dead Kei, promising hundreds of hours of gameplay. The title will also be getting brand new DLC in 2021 called Fatesworn.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoninglaunches on September 8th on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
