If you’ve playedClair Obscur: Expedition 33for more than five minutes, you probably already know that some enemies hit hard, so defending yourself is just as important as attacking. And when I say defend yourself, it goes beyond basic damage reduction andusing the best weapons. It’s about timing, positioning and using the right tools to stay standing when the going gets tough. And that’s where defensive pictos come in.

10 Best Pictos for Offense in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Looking to hit harder in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Here are offensive pictos that actually make a difference when you’re on the attack.

Some defensive pictos help you recover just enough health to keep moving. Others give you that last-second lifeline when an enemy almost takes you out. A few just let you last longer in fights you’d otherwise lose. None of them make you completely invincible and they’re not a free pass to ignore enemy patterns. But pick the right one and you’ll find fights getting more manageable.

8Clea’s Life

Recover Full HP at the Start of Your Turn

Clea’s Life costs 30 Lumina Points to activate, so yeah, it’s on the expensive side, but it’s easy to understand why. If your character doesn’t take any damage between their last turn and the start of their next one, they’ll fully heal. But the catch is if they take even a sliver of damage in between, the healing doesn’t happen.

So you have to protect that character. Use a taunt to shift attention away and time it when enemies are stunned or distracted. Maybe pair it with a dodge buff or damage immunity, because if you can create even a single turn window where they’re not hit, you’re rewarded with a full HP reset.

7Anti-Freeze

Immune to Freezing

The Anti-Freeze Picto is the answer to one of the most annoying problems in a fight: getting frozen solid and missing your turn completely. That’s brutal when you’re in the middle of a fight. This Picto shuts that nonsense down. You stay active, you keep the fight going and your momentum stays intact.

It also adds a bit of Health and Defense as a passive bonus, which is nice, but the real perk is staying free to act. The Anti-Freeze picto can be yours once you take out an enemy named Ismal in the Flower Fields.

6Anti-Burn

Immunity to Burn

If you’re fighting against enemies who love throwing Burn around, you need the Anti-Burn picto. For 15 Lumina Points, you’re able to activate a full immunity to Burn. Not reduced duration. Not lower damage. Actual immunity. And the thing with burn is that it causes damage over time, turn after turn, and can wreck your tempo mid-fight.

Even worse, it usually forces you to break formation just to heal or cleanse it. But with Anti-Burn, that effect’s got nothing on you. You earn Anti-Burn by beating Gargant in the Frozen Hearts area.

5Effective Heal

Doubles Your HP

With Effective Heal, any healing your character receives is doubled. It doesn’t matter if it’s from a healing skill, an item or another character, it all gets a 2x boost. So say you’ve got a healer in the party who normally restores 400 HP – with Effective Heal active, that becomes 800 HP instead.

Locked in the dark and dreary Sinister Cave, take down the Chromatic Chalier in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

And that’s just one turn. Over multiple turns or in tough boss fights where you’re constantly healing, this picto makes each heal go a lot further, saving you time and turns. To get Effective Heal, go to the Sirene area. It’s located near aChromatic Greatsword Cultistin that region.

4Sweet Kill

Kill, Heal and Kill Again

If your character defeats an enemy, they instantly heal for 50% of their max HP. That’s a big chunk of healing for just landing the final blow. In long battles where your healer’s busy or your team’s getting hammered, having one character self-heal like this can take a lot of pressure off the party.

Sweet Kill is especially great for aggressiveparty memberswho are always dealing damage. If they finish off an enemy, they basically get a free half-heal. It also creates a nice feedback loop: kill, heal, survive longer, kill again.

3Attack Lifesteal

Heal with Every Base Attack

The Attack Lifesteal lets you heal every time they land a base attack. You start getting back 15% of your max HP with every base attack you make. I particularly love this picto because it isn’t based on how much damage you deal; it’s based on your total health.

Review: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG that pushes the technical aspect of modern hardware to its limits.

So whether you’re barely scratching an enemy or landing a heavy blow, the healing stays the same, which makes it really reliable. If your character has 1000 HP, they heal 150 every time they attack. And because it only works with base attacks, it encourages you to be more aggressive.

2Solidifying

Get +2 Shields When Your Health Bar Drops Halfway

For 10 Lumina Points, Solidifying can be yours once per battle, and it only kicks in when your health falls under 50%. You will gain +2 Shields to soak up the next incoming hits. That can make the difference between getting knocked out and surviving just long enough to cast a heal, finish off a boss or swap out safely.

The fact that Solidifying only triggers once per battle means you’ve got to treat it like a fallback, not a crutch. you’re able to’t spam it or rely on it over and over, but when it counts, it’s solid.

Cheat Death

For 20 Lumina Points, you get the power to cheat death once in every battle. If you’re about to take a blow that would normally finish you off, you don’t go down. You will remain standing with 1 HP. With Survivor, you get a chance to fix things, whether it’s by healing yourself, switching positions, finishing off your target or just buying your team a little more time.

And you don’t lose your turn, you don’t fall behind and you’re still in the fight. But remember, it’s a one-time deal. If you don’t heal or shield yourself after it triggers, the next hit will finish you, so don’t treat it like a safety net you can fall into forever.
