The future of James Gunn’sSupermanfranchise has seemingly been confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery. While the Superman reboot has seen huge success at the domestic box office, the superhero movie hassomewhat surprisingly struggled internationally. Such financial results have led some to believe that theDCUis already in trouble, and now Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has offered an update regarding the fate of the franchise.
PerDeadline, Zaslav revealed thatJames Gunnand Peter Safran’s DCU is well and truly up and running, with Gunn now “preparing” towrite aSupermansequel. Well, we assume it’s aSupermansequel, as the CEO refers to the project as “the next installment in the Super family.” Considering thatSupergirlis already underway, and has been written by Ana Nogueira, this can surely only mean Gunn is returning forSuperman 2.

Despite the few naysayers,Supermanhas been the success that the DCU needed. The reboot isnow the biggest domestic hitfor the character ever, has grossed a global total of $559 million worldwide, and holds the highest audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at a “verified hot” 91%, alongside 83% “certified fresh” from critics. Clearly, the studio is confident in the world of DC again, as well as having faith in Gunn, with the writer, director, and co-Chief of DC Studios set to continue to steer The Man of Steel’s future adventures.

The Batman Is Finally Set to Return to the Big Screen Soon
Not only does Superman have a bright future, so does Batman, with David Zaslav also confirming that the long-awaited sequel,The Batman Part 2, is finally set to beginproduction “next spring.”
“In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Clayface (2026) and the next Wonder Woman. In addition, The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development. The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, the upcoming new season of ‘Peacemaker,’ and the debut of ‘Lanterns’ in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social.”
