Could Underwater Combat Return to Monster Hunter?

Since this feature has only appeared once in the franchise—15 years ago—many fans have long asked Capcom to bring backfull underwater battles.

This has sparked speculation on Reddit among action-RPG fans. Some believe that a futureMonster Hunter Wildsexpansion—or even a new title—might bring back fullsubaquatic combat.

In a social media post, the official account stated,“We won’t be using our full weapon arsenal”, accompanied by a video showing gameplay. From what’s shown, it seems players willdodge attacks, use agrappling hookto mount Lagiacrus, andstab it with a knife—similar to mounting mechanics used against other creatures.

It also looks like players will be able todrop structureson it orlure it into attacksthat cause environmental damage.

This is clearly adowngraded versionof the old underwater combat, where weapons had dedicated swimming animations and mechanics.

That underwater system was adivisive additionin the past. Some fans remember it fondly, while others criticized it for being slow and clunky. In any case, we’ll need tosee how this new battle plays outbefore getting our hopes up about a full underwater system returning.

Don’t forget: this update arrivesJune 30and is part of thefree post-launch contentplanned forMonster Hunter Wilds, available onPS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
