Microsoft and Nvidia have announced that Xbox PC games will be coming to GeForce Now, the cloud gaming service.
Microsoft Teams Up with Nvidia to Add Xbox PC Games to Geforce Now
Microsoft and Nvidia are joining forces to bring Xbox PC games to GeForce Now, Nvidia’s cloud gaming service. Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, outlined the plan during a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday, in an attempt to gain support from the European Union for Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. According to Smith, players will have access to all of Activision Blizzard’s titles such as Call of Duty through GeForce Now. The partnership will span 10 years, with access to over 25 million members in over 100 countries using GeForce Now.
While the acquisition was proposed was agreed upon, the deal has yet to pass. This news comes at the same time as Microsoft’s announcement to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo systems also in a 10-year deal. There seems to be a lot of movement between the companies as of late, which could in turn bring a number of projects to fruition in future. While new games on the Switch are always a plus, how they plan to run them on the ageing hardware is yet to be seen. As a rumouredSwitch Promay happen in the future, this could be a partnership ushering in new hardware but there’s nothing concrete yet.
Smith hopes this will ease the CMA’s concerns about the current monopoly thatPlayStationholds on the cloud gaming industry. Supporting this statement with data concerning the current European market share that has Sony holding about 80%. With the issues currently at hand with the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard, this isn’t the only area that they will need to satisfy regulators. Cloud gaming is quite a competitive field, with the likes ofStadia bowing out officially earlier this year.
