The world ofMonster Hunter Worldcan make newcomers feel lost with different quests and monsters. There’s always questions that new players may have about how several aspects of the game work. In thisMHW: Quest & Monster Tier Guidewe will go over quest rank, hunter rank, monster threat and more.
MHW: Quest & Monster Tier Guide
Q: What is the best way to hunt a monster? Expeditions or Quests?
A:Hunters should progress theirmain story (called Assignments)until they unlock the monster they are looking to hunt. As you progress the main story, optional questsbecome available, and hunters will likely want to complete them in order to unlock the Rainbow Pigment. Alternatively, you can experiment withInvestigations, which are focused hunts that have clear targets and often a much more limited time period, but bonus rewards.

Expeditions are an option but only if you wish to capture wildlife, fish, gather as well as hunt monsters. Monsters in expeditions can leave the locale if players take too long so its not wise to hunt in expeditions early in the game. Also investigations rewards players with items like monster parts so they can greatly speed up making that newarmor setyou must have.
Q: How do I know if I am high rank?/ Which quests are low rank compared to high rank?

A:Hunters should be on the lookout after they repelZorah Magdarosand have to head to Wildspire Waste to find aPink Rathian. This quest will mark the beginning ofhigh rank. In addition, players should look to the stars colors on quests.
Q: Does monsters scale to your power or are they fixed? What is the the difference between a regular, tempered, and arch tempered monster?

A:Monsters don’t match your power, they remain static and fixed. Instead, monsters are divided into tiers:
Q: How do you encounter them [the different tiers monsters]? What quests are they in?
![]()
A:As stated earlier players can find normal monsters in their proper rank. Players start in low rank and have access to low rank expeditions and investigations. Once they reach high rank they have access to high rank expeditions and investigations. Remember to collect monster tracks to quickly add investigations.
To find tempered monsters players must

“A Simple Task“
The best way to find theGourmet Shroomcapsis head towards camp 8 or 11 as they have 2-3 Mushroom Colonies in a somewhat close proximity. Bring your gathering set to finish this quest even faster.
“Tracking The Delivery“
Monsters are divided into 3 Tiers:
Tier 1 have common monsters. HR 13+, it falls under Tier 1
Tier 2 have apex monsters and other late game monsters. HR 30+, it falls under Tier 2
Tier 3 are the easiest to understand at the moment since its only Elder Dragons. HR 50+, it falls under Tier 3
Tempered Monsters usually reside in the investigation quests as shown in the quest screen by a purple cloak. There are also certain tempered monsters in optional quests that unlocks Mantles/Boosters for the hunters.
Arch Tempered Monsters only reside in event quests that are live for about 2-3 weeks at a time. They will be live during the season festivals and appreciation festival. They are noted by an orange cloak; the following event quests are the Arch Tempered Monsters.

“When Blue Dust Surpasses Red Lust”
“Undying Aplenglow”
“Like a Moth to the Flame”
Q: What loot do the Tempered and Arch Tempered Monsters drop?
A:They don’t really drop anything but hunters can obtain select items from them in special events and investigations! Remember in investigations, at the end of the quest there will be select number of bonus reward slots, colored inbronze, silver, orgold. The number of bonus slots are predetermined and range from 2 to 5. The more difficult the conditions of the quests the higher reward color the slots/boxes will be. The slots color to indicate different drop rate, but not a different loot table (i.e: a gem can drop in a bronze slot, but is more likely to drop in a gold one)
For Tempered Monsters, those color boxes will only bepurpleand have different loot table of what they drop.
Tempered Quest Loot Percentages Post-Patch 3.00
Arch TemperedMonsterswill drop their ticket during the quest rewards along with their normal loot (monster parts), armor sphere, and Warrior/Hero Streamstone. Players should head to the Smithy and acquire the delivery request to create the matching layered armor. Tickets are used to create the monster’s Gamma armor (γ) and layered armor.
