Atlus announced on Tuesday evening thatMetaphor: ReFantaziohas met an outstanding sales milestone that will likely grow within the next few years. Metaphor: ReFantazio is a celebrated 2024 Japanese RPG from Atlus that has scored Game of the Year wins and a nomination for the major prize at The Game Awards.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Takes to New Heights

The magnificent Atlus RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio has now reached over two million sales across the world, according to the Official Atlus West X account. The company posted an illustration of the protagonist Will by the character designer Shigenori Soejima. “Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us,” said the developer and publisher of the critically acclaimed game.

While the Persona 5 series has sold over 10 million copies as of December 2023 (according toGematsu), two million copies being bought by RPG fans around the world is no mere feat for an original IP like Metaphor: ReFantazio. It is easy to recommend, especially to those who have played a Persona game before. It’s a fantasy take on the formula as you meet new allies (and get to know them like the social link system), take on foes in a turn-based combat system, and utilize stylish menus that are works of art in an of themselves.

The two million sales mark is also impressive as many great RPGs have launched over the past few years.Final Fantasy VII Rebirthcontinued Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa’s storyline, while Dragon’s Dogma 2 stunned fans with its impressive open world and difficult gameplay.

Persona 4 Revival is on the way

What may have helped Metaphor: ReFantazio reach this new number is itsinclusion on Xbox Game Pass. While downloads from the subscription service likely don’t count towards the two million sales number, the word of mouth has likely helped. Those who play the game through Xbox Game Pass on console and PC may also decide to pick up a copy themselves.

Metaphor: ReFantazio reviewed well with critics. “Outside of a few dings here and there, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a near-perfect game that rivals that of Persona 5,” saidour review. “The rich fantasy elements are matched with spectacular gameplay, gorgeous designs and captivating storytelling.”

Atlus' Future

Atlus has a few games cooking over the next few years. While it doesn’t have a release date,Persona 4 Revivalis a remake of the classic PS2 and Vita game, just like the prior entry Persona 3 Reload, which received critical praise across the board in 2024. It is likely to have new English voice actors on the project as the former performers of the characters have said they’re not a part of the game’s cast.

Persona 3 Reload received a 4.5/5 rating inour review.

What we do know, however, is that we’ll be getting the adventure in Inaba retold for new platforms, including the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It will be on Xbox Game Pass, likely from day one. Hopefully a Switch 2 port is announced as well before it launches.

Atlus recently launchedRaidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series.
