Shuri is back on set. PerBBC News, Letitia Wright has fully recovered from the injury she suffered while filmingBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverand has resumed filming on the sequel. In August, it was reported that Wright had suffered what was thought at the time to be a minor injury. It was later determined that she had sustained injuries that were more significant than originally thought, requiring months of recovery. There were rumors of Wright exiting the project, but Marvel was quick to shut them down.

“What we had initially thought were minor injuries turned out to be much more serious with Letitia suffering a critical shoulder fracture, and a concussion with severe side effects. It has been a painful process and Letitia has been home recovering with her doctors and the support of family,” the company stated in November. “We’ve adjusted our production schedule so she has the time she needs to heal, but there’s only so much we can do without Shuri! We also want to thank Letitia for everything she’s doing to get back to the set - we know how much she loves this role, how tough it’s been for her to be away, and how hard she’s working to recover as quickly as she safely can.”

Shuri Is Rumored to Become the New Black Panther

After Chadwick Boseman’s shocking death, it was confirmed by Marvel that the role of T’Challa would not be recast with a new actor. While there has been a social media movement for a new actor to be given the role, these plans don’t seem to be wavering. Kevin Feige has also said that Boseman won’t be digitally inserted intoBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverthrough the use of CGI, suggesting T’Challa won’t be in the film at all. No details have been revealed about the plot ofWakanda Foreverso it remains unclear how T’Challa will be written out of the story.

One leading theory with Marvel fans is that another character will take the Black Panther mantle as a way of paying tribute to T’Challa and moving the story forward. Shuri appears to be one of the more likely characters to be possibly taking this on, asLetitia Wrightwill reportedly be featured much more heavily in the sequel. She will be joined by several other stars from the original movie, including Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett. Ryan Coogler is also back in the director’s chair.

Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveris scheduled to be released in movie theaters on Jun 26, 2025. Additionally, Coogler will further expand the world of the films with aWakandaspinoff seriesthat’s also in development at Disney+. That project doesn’t yet have a release date.
