Jimmy KimmelandDonald Trumphave quite a history of back and forth snipes at each other, highlighted duringKimmel’s stint as host at the Oscars ceremony in 2024, when he drew a reaction from the then-former, now-current president by sharing one of the criticisms of the event’s host Trump posted on his Truth Social site. Now, Kimmel is sure to come under the eye of the returning Commander in Chief once again after his recent comments about Trump’s weekend visit to fire-torn Los Angeles.

Donald Trump announced during the week that he would be making time in his first week back in office to visit the site of the devastating wildfires that destroyed homes and shut down the area early last week. However, the visit is not being seen as a good thing, thanks in part to the ways he has used the fires to promote several of his views on the people living in California. Kimmel is one of those not exactly looking to welcome President Trump with a flag-waving committee, and he opened his show on Thursday with a scathing monologue in which he suggested that Trump’s visit is only happening so he can“blame us for the fires in person.”He said:

Sebastian Stan The Apprentice

“It’s the first time in history that a natural disaster will be visited by an even bigger natural disaster. He’s coming to, I guess to survey the damage and meet with the governor, mostly to get away from Elon for a couple of days.

You know, we knew Donald Trump was gonna be terrible. When I say ‘we,’ I mean, you know, ‘us’ here in the room. But what we didn’t know? He would be so terrible that he would actually threaten to not help us in an emergency situation if he doesn’t get what he wants. He is so ridiculous. And we have to sit around with the place on fire, hoping he gives us our own money back.”

Kimmel’s Monologue Is a Direct Response to Several Key Issue

Jimmy Kimmel is certainly never going to be a supporter of Donald Trumpin any way, and his monologue was designed to take aim at several reasons why many within California did not vote for the return of Trump to the White House. In the November 2024 election, 58% of the vote went to Kamala Harris, against Trump’s 38%.

In his monologue, Kimmel’s reference to the state “hoping he gives us our own money back” made reference to the fact that California, and many high-tax traditionally Democratic states, wereproven to greatly subsidize low-tax Republican states. However, Trump has previously suggested that if California does not cooperate in his immigration plans, then he will withhold the federal disaster aid they need. Kimmel added:

“As if we’re Eric and he’s cutting off our allowance to teach us some kind of a lesson. Which, on one hand you might think, ‘Wow, what a truly — only a despicable human being would use disaster relief money as a bargaining chip,’ but on the other hand… there is no other hand. It’s just that hand. It’s just that grubby, grabby little hand of his.”

Sebastian Stan Just Earned His First Oscar Nomination for the Trump Movie No One Wanted To Talk About

Sebastian Stan had two shots at awards season glory thanks to ‘A Different Man’ and ‘The Apprentice,’ with voters going for his turn as Donald Trump.

Perhaps Kimmel should be the one to personally welcome President Trump on his arrival. It could even be televised as a live PPV program on Netflix and become their most streamed live Fight Night event in history. Let’s not pretend stranger things have not happened recently.
