That’s a wrap! After a very successful first season, Marvel and Netflix wasted no time giving the green light toJessica JonesSeason 2, which is expected to arrive on the streaming service next year. We are officially one step closer to new episodes as it has been revealed thatJessica Jones Season 2has officially wrapped production. That means, in all likelihood, this will be the first Marvel show that will air a new season on Netflix in 2018.
As reported byMCU Exchange, both Krysten Ritter and newcomer Diane Gibson took to social media to declare that filming onJessica JonesSeason 2 is complete. However, most of the images that they posted from the wrap party, which featured both of the actresses in special shirts they wore for the occasion, have since been taken down. PerhapsNetflix and/or Marveldidn’t want them revealing that the series has completed production on the new season, but MCU Exchange got wind of it before the images were taken down. There is still one photo on Gibson’s Instagram that features her Mini Cooper and a caption that assuresJessica JonesSeason 2 is in the can.

The interesting thing to note aboutJessica JonesSeason 2 is that they managed to wrap production in 5 months. Typically, these Marvel shows on Netflix have taken 6 months to film. So production probably sailed along very smoothly in order for them to shave a month off the typical schedule. It had previously been announced by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg that there would be 13 episodes in the upcoming season, all of which are going to be directed by women, which is significant. A female-led comic book TV show with all female directors demonstrates just how far the superhero genre has come in recent years.
No official plot details have been revealed forJessica JonesSeason 2 yet, but we do know that, despite the fact that his neck was broken at the end of the first season, David Tennant will be back as Kilgrave. Just how he is going to factor into this new season remains a mystery, but it is certainly interesting. Not only because he appeared to be dead, butTennant’s Kilgraveis one of the best villains in all of the MCU so far, so having him back should be a good thing.

Netflix hasn’t announced any premiere dates yet, but those are the shows we are likely to see arrive on the streaming service next year, following the recent premiere ofDefendersSeason 1.
