While fans have already enjoyed the first two phases of theMarvelCinematic Universe, the studio’s TV department is just getting started. Aside from the ABC seriesMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.andMarvel’s Agent Carter, the studio is just getting started onNetflix, withMarvel’s Daredevilkicking off four new shows that will be debuting on the streaming service.Marvel’s Jessica Joneswill be next, debuting on November 20, withMarvel’s Luke CageandMarvel’s Iron Fistdebuting next year, leading up toThe Defendersin 2017. Aside from additional seasons for all four shows, it isn’t known ifMarvelis developing any other shows with Netflix, but a new rumor surfaced on theCollider Heroespodcast, where Heroic Hollywood’sUmberto Gonazalezclaims that the studio is developing a Netflix series based on theMarvelComics characterMoon Knight.
“It’s interesting you bring upMoon Knight, because that’s not being developed for film. The heroic hot rumor is that Moon Knight is actually being developed for Netflix, since he is their version ofBruce Wayne. The way they’re backdoor pilotingPunisher, making appearances inDaredevil Season 2, and if it works out, boom. It’s the same thing withMoon Knight. Again, he’s their version of Bruce Wayne, it’s one of the staples they’re developing for their Netflix strategy, and I’d rather see a Netflix version of Moon Knight than a cinematic one.”
Umberto Gonazalezwouldn’t clarify whetherMoon Knightwould first appear onMarvel’s Daredevil, or on any of the other Netflix shows before possibly getting a stand alone show. There have been rumors that Netflix is already working on aPunisher seriesor even a movie, but whether or not that moves forward will likely depend on how fans react toJon Bernthal’s portrayal of theMarvel Comicscharacter.Moon Knightwas first brought up on the podcast as the panelists were discussing the three mystery release dates set byMarvellast week, and what those movies could be.
Moon Knightwas created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, who made hisMarvelcomics debut in 1975’sWerewolf by Night#32. He went on to appear in a number of different comics before his own stand alone series was released in 1980. Born Marc Spector,Moon Knightwas given superhuman strength, endurance, and reflexes after he was visited by Egyptian god Khonshu. However, his powers are either enhanced or weakened depending on the phases of the moon. He also used a number of gadgets to fight crime, which lead to the character being compared to DC’s Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman.
Neither Marvel nor Netflix have confirmed the development of aMoon KnightTV series, so we’ll have to wait for more details to surface. If this series is happening, it likely won’t debut untilThe Defendersmini series has aired in 2017. There have also been rumors of Marvel and Netflix developing aThunderboltsTV series, so it’s possible that project andMoon Knightcould be part of Marvel’s next TV “phase.” What do you think about thisMoon Knightrumor?
