Many Elvis Presley enthusiasts have condemned the movie, which is a biography of Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley’s ex-wife. The Elvis Estate is not pleased withPriscillaeither and has even accused Coppola of filming the movie without their knowledge or permission and calling it a potential money grab.
The storyline and directing of the movie have reportedly also drawn criticism from the estate. Priscilla Presley, though, defended it and said she was pleased with it in response to the criticism. She also mentioned that she is actively involved with the production. Although the movie will not be released for a couple of months, it is unclear whether the controversy will affect the film’s release or performance.

During an interview with theFinancial Times,Sofia Coppolashared that she was informed of the unofficial statement released by the Elvis Estate and the remarks that were made about her and her film. She went on to add that she was even denied permission to use Presley’s music in the film, which was a major setback for the young director. She said in the interview that,
“The Elvis estate is not happy. I remember Priscilla’s manager saying, ‘The Elvis fans are not going to like certain things.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not making it for them.'”
This statement was shared by Sofia Coppola during an interview with theFinancial Times.
Many have voiced their opinion on the movie and even claimed that the movie somewhat defames Elvis Presley and his work. Although it was supposed to be a feel-good movie, there is also a dark side to the movie and fans are quite enraged because of it. The movie portrays Presley’s drug addiction along with many other disturbing scenes that can potentially harm his public image.
The film is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2025, but it has already premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it received positive reviews from critics. The film chronicles Priscilla’s life from her teenage years to her marriage and the time revolving around her divorce from Elvis. The film is expected to have a tender and perceptive look at an intriguing and complicated lady.
