Accepting the Quest
The Sinkhole Stroll is a side quest you don’t pick up like any other side quest, as it’s something that needs to be stumbled across. Located just west of the Coastal Farms, just south of the city of Fior mes Iverno, there will be Maxim’s Claim. And directly east of that on the map you will find a small abandoned settlement.
It has been abandoned for a reason: the wildlife has moved in and there’s a giant sinkhole in the middle, absorbing all the surrounding structures. All you need to do is walk up to the sinkhole, be it through a destroyed structure or the large cliff, and you will hear a man screaming from the bottom. When this happens, the quest will pop up in your journal to be taken on.
Getting Down into the Sinkhole
The trickiest aspect of The Sinkhole Stroll is getting down the hole itself. While it’s not a huge platforming section, there are definitely quite a few drops that need to be had, along with navigating rather finicky roots. We almost slipped off numerous times because of collision.
Regardless, drop the first little lip and enter the inside of a structure immediately behind you. There will be sporelings and other creatures waiting for you, but they can easily be dispatched with a little magic or melee. Just be cautious of the powerful Bruiser.
Afterward, head through the small doorway and progress downward on the root. There will be Small Rock Blights stalling your descent, with the big one all the way down at the bottom. Now that you’re at the bottom, all you have to do is talk to Old Felipe as he has some rather interesting things to say.
Getting Back Felipe’s Research
Unfortunately, it’s never as simple as getting down into the sinkhole and leading the captive out, but instead the researcher refuses to go anywhere until you find his research. Thankfully, it’s not too far away.
There will actually be two roots that conveniently come down to the bottom of the sinkhole. Take the other one up to find more sporelings ready to take your life. As soon as you take care of these creatures and step into the next room, you will come across ajournal on the ground. Take it and then burn the small webbing in an open coffin to the right of it. This will hold aRusty Key.
Before heading back, go up the stairs to find a locked door. This is where the Rusty Key comes in handy. Open it to find a treasure chest filled with materials and armor, along with the Sun and Moon shield on the wall. Take them and return to Old Felipe. He will thank you for bringing back his invaluable squirrel research and return to Fior mes Iverno to present his findings, not before handing over a little gold. Go back up the way you just came to open a barred door to exit.
