After losing an arm wrestle you had no chance of winning, your party reluctantly arrives at the Abandoned Wizards Lab. When you step inside, you realize why the pirates didn’t want to loot this place themselves. The Lab is full of fiendish ‘light puzzles’ and is a confusing place to navigate. Fortunately, it’s not too bad when you know how. Here’s how to beat the Abandoned Wizards Lab inSea of Stars.
How to beat the Abandoned Wizards Lab inSea of Stars
To start things off, push the purple block next to the Alter and use it as a platform to reach the chest on the ledge above. There’s aGreen Crystalinside. Place the Green Crystal on the lit pedestal in the center of the room.This will open a portal just above you. Save the game, heal up, and step inside.
Green Portal
Along with the puzzles, there are plenty of enemies to slow you down. Arcane Sentries are resistant to magic, so save your MP for healing. Don’t boost the Solstice Warrior’s attacks, as this imbues the attacks with magic. Garl is still safe to use Boosted Attacks. The Wanderers you’ll face later (the ones with lanterns) are the opposite and resist weapon damage.
Walk north and step on the glowingPurple Glyph, then follow the path west and step on theBlue Glyph, too.
Follow the new path to the east, then step on thePurple Glyphagain. This will reveal a chest you need just above. Open the chest, retrieve theBlue Crystal, and return to the main room.
Back at the altar,remove the Green Crystaland put the blue one in its place. Heal if you need to, and step into the blue portal.
Blue portal
There are several holes you need to dive into in this area. First, jump into the one to the north and follow the route around to theBlue Glyph.
Activate the switch, and a new path will open. Defeat the enemies, trigger thePurple Glyph, and dive into the new purple hole. Hoist yourself up the wall in front and pull the lever. Now, go back through the portal you just used as the destination has changed and step on the white switch. Return to the main chamber, where a new pedestal on the altar is now lit.
Place the green crystal on the empty pedestal and head into the new cyan portal.
Cyan Portal
Dive into the lake for the chest, then climb back up the ladder and push the purple block. There are two switches here that spawn waves of enemies. These are mandatory encounters, so you need to activate them.
Finally, use the purple block to reach the remaining switch. Defeat the enemies, and the nearby waterfall will part. Grab theRed Crystalfrom the chest inside and return to the main chamber.
Now for the complicated part.Remove the Blue Crystaland replace it with theRed Crystal. You’re right; green and red don’t make yellow, but it’s magic! So, head into the yellow portal.
Yellow Portal
Stepping on the switches reveals a safe way across the gaps in this area. Defeat the enemies as you make your way through the room. Activate the button to light the final pedestal and return to the main chamber.
The boss portal opens when you place all three crystals in the middle of the room. The Chromatic Apparition is a fearsome boss. So much so that we wrote a separate guide on how to beat him.Check it out if you get stuck.
