Netflix is currently hard at work on the second season ofThe Witcher, and though production on the show has been met with some difficulties, it sounds like things are moving forward nicely. Lead star Henry Cavill took to social media recently to reveal that, due to the new lockdown measures that are soon going to take place in England, he is moving to the studio in order to continue plying his trade as the monster hunter extraordinaire, Geralt.
“England returns to Lockdown on Thursday so it is time for me to depart Yorkshire and The extraordinary North, and head back down South to continue shooting in the studio. Thank you for hosting all of us onseason 2 of The Witcher. Hopefully I shall return to your hills, dales and fells soon. Stay strong and stay safe, my friends.”
Sporting some natty knitwear along with a face mask, Cavill will leave the North of England and make his way down South, where he will no doubtquickly enter the studiotry to make up for the lost time caused by ongoing delays.
Introducing audiences toMan of Steelstar Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, the first season ofThe Witcherwas a huge hit for Netflix. Set on the fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as “the Continent”,The Witcherexplores the legend of Geralt and princess Ciri, who are linked by destiny to each other. The first season tells a non-linear story and follows the three main protagonists at different points in time, exploring formative events that shaped their characters, before eventually merging into a single timeline.
The official synopsis for season 2 was released recently and reads, “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden,Geralt of Riviabrings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
The second season will reportedly tell a much more linear story, as well as explore Geralt’s mysterious upbringing.The Witcherseason 2 will also see several new characters introduced includingRobin Hood’sYasen Atour as Coën,Monster’sAgnes Bjorn as Vereena,Peaky Blindersstar Paul Bullion as Lambert,The Favouritestar Basil Eidenbenz as Eskel,The Danish Girlstar Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, acting newcomer Mecia Simson as Francesca, andGame of Thronesalumni Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen. The series will also introduce fan-favorite character and Witcher trainer Vesemir, played byKilling Eve’sKim Bodnia. They join Cavill in the lead alongside Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as Jaskier.
The Witcherrecently returned to filming following a pause in production, and whilst the second season does not yet have an official release date, it is likely thatNetflixwill debut the series late next year. A third season ofThe Witcherhas also seemingly been confirmed thanks to the Writer’s Guild of America West directories, which now lists a ‘season 3’.
