Review: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Is HD-2D the key to revitalize Dragon Quest III or should it have stayed in the past?
The Bard and His Riddles
In the upper right portion of Cloudsgate Citadel there is a bard. He praises the hero’s might but questions whether the sharpness of their mind matches that of their blade. He presents a riddle for the hero to solve. In order to do so, figure out the location of which the bard speaks, travel there and retrieve the treasure and return to the bard.
The first riddle is “Ohhh, what’s that ‘neath the trident in the sad, shattered town? ‘Tis a glitter, a glister, a star ‘pon the grooound? Shilderal-dilderal-dooo!” As a bard, it only makes sense to present the riddles in song format, and the gibberish at the end probably isn’t relevant to locating the item. But where has the player been that fits the description as a sad, shattered town?

The answer that should immediately spring to mind is Theddon. Theddon does have a pretty active nightlife but is kind of dead during the day. As such, the hero will need to go to Theddon during the day when the town is at its most sad and shattered. Go to the church, interact with the trident and the Beast Claws will be yours. Return to the bard and rub those claws in his face.
The Second Riddle
The second riddle is as follows. “Ohhh, a town in a land girt about with the dark… And there, ‘mid the flowers, a treasure, a spaaaark. Helderal-daldarall-daaa!”" What could the bard be talking about? The specific town of which the bard speaks is less obvious than in the previous riddle, but being covered in dark does narrow the choices down a bit. The Dark World is filled with darkness, so it seems like this would be one of the towns in Alefgard. It’s time toZoomthrough thePit of Giagaand visit one of the towns clad in darkness.
The hero could go to every single town in Alefgard and search all the flowers, but that would be silly. Return to Cantlin, as this is a specific town that is shrouded in darkness. There are some plants in front of the house where the hero found the Broken Blade. Interact with the plants and theDark Robewill be acquired. Strut around in front of the bard with the robe.

The Third Riddle
Having proved to the bard that the hero has a few brain cells they can rub together, the bard offers a final riddle: “With his eyes on the skies, the stargazer, replete… With wonders above, see’th not those at his feeet! Humdaree-dumdaree-hooo!” Stargazers in Dragon Quest you say? Well, there is a stargazer to be found, but it is possible to miss this stargazer as his village is difficult to find, and not a required stop on the journey thus far.
Zoom to Lozamii, or attempt to locate it for the first time, as this isn’t a place that the hero is required to visit during the adventure. It’s on thesoutheast part of the world map, just to the right of the little sun circle in the corner. In the eastern part of town there is an observatory. Go inside and upstairs and interact with space to the right of the astronomer to find a Sage’s Stone. Return to the bard, and show off that you have the mind of a sage.

The Payoff
Now that you have found those items, the bard is impressed with the hero’s ability to find hidden things. There are no more riddles, and the reward is some knowledge. The bard will tell the hero there are110 mini-medalshidden throughout the world, and tell the player how short they are of achieving the goal.
At the time of solving these riddles, we had a hefty number of mini-medals, but sadly, we were still very short of the goal.
