James Gunnhas finally revealedDavid Corenswetin his fullSupermansuit in a new image. Having teased the imminent release of the new suit that Corenswet will be donning in his debut as the Man of Steel, the writer/director has now come good and delivered a stunning image featuring the actor pulling on his boots. You can see the image below, as shared by Gunn on hisThreadsaccount

This comes shortly afterimages surfaced online from the set of Superman, showing Corenswet’s appearance as his Clark Kent alter ego. Those photos had many fans making comparisons between Corenswet and former franchise star Henry Cavill, as both men share a similar physique.

David Corenswet as Superman in James Gunn’s new DCU

James Gunn’sSupermanis set to premiere on July 15, 2025, and will kick-start a refreshed DC Universe following the conclusion of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) with Jason Momoa’sAquaman and the Lost Kingdom. While there are no new DC movies being released before Corenswet makes his debut next year, the animated seriesCreature Commandosis expected to arrive something before the end of 2024. It is hoped that the break in movies will put some distance between the failures of the old and new franchises, and allow the DCU to get off to a fully refreshed start.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.' rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”

Gunn has previously expressed his views on the idea of “superhero fatigue”, suggesting that the issue is less about the superheroes and more about the diversity of stories being told. His approach aims to inject something new into the tired formula that saw 2023 be one of the worst years for comic book movies in more than a decade. His work on Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyfranchise proved that even when other movies are crumbling, Gunn can still bring in audiences, as he did withGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3last summer.

James Gunn is Crafting a Whole New DCU

Supermanis the first stepping stone of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new live-action DCU franchise and will pave the way for several other movies, which currently includeSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, The Authority, and a recently confirmedTeen Titansfilm. These films make up the initial phase of the DCU, which itself comes under the banner of “Gods & Monsters.” Gunn has also suggested that there are more projects to be announced at a later date, which will have a significant role to play in the overall DC story that is being put together by the pair.

James Gunn Shuts Down Conspiracy Theory About His Part in Henry Cavill’s Superman Exit

When it was suggested that Gunn “lied to fans” about his Superman involvement at The Suicide Squad premiere, the director quickly responded.

Having worked within the ongoing narrative of the MCU for several years, Gunn is probably as well-equipped as anyone to deliver the kind of connected storytelling that has eluded the world of DC sincethe departure of Zack Snyder from the franchise in 2016. There is clearly a more cohesive plan for the DCU’s future success being put together, which can provide something that has been lacking for almost a decade. This is something that will run alongside standalone “Elsewhere” projects such asThe Batmanuniverse and this year’sJokersequel.
