CD Projekt REDunveiled the first trailer forThe Witcher 4duringThe Game Awards 2024, introducingCirias the new protagonist of this open-world action RPG. However, this does not mean that Geralt of Rivia will be absent—though his role in the story remains a closely guarded secret.

CD Projekt RED Explains Geralt’s Inclusion

The studio confirmed thatGeraltwill indeed appear in the game and will once again be voiced by actorDoug Cockle, who had previously dropped hints about the project—something the developers were reportedly unhappy about. While Geralt is absent from the trailer, Cockle narrates the closing message, which teases,“It’s time for a new saga.”

Without delving too deeply into the events of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED encourages fans to revisit Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels for context surrounding this new chapter. According toCian Maher, the game’s lore designer:

“Geralt will probably be around for a long time.”

He references the novel Season of Storms, which features an epilogue set inMagpie Forestin1373, 101 years after the events ofThe Witcher 3. In that epilogue, awhite-haired witcher—unnamed, but unmistakably Geralt—is shown hunting a peculiar monster.

Development Details
