To say thatThe Marvelswas one of the worst letdowns in the entireMCUwould be putting it mildly. The film only managed to gross $206 million at the box office, failing to even make back its budget. While many have called into question the future ofBrie Larson’s Captain Marvel overall, it appears as if she’ll be back in a big way to help lead the charge in the upcomingAvengers: Doomsday, and its follow-up,Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to Alex Perez atThe Cosmic Circus, Captain Marvel"will be one of the leading Avengers"in the upcoming films, whichwill see the return of the Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe, to once again take the reins as directors. This will mark their first return to the MCU since helming 2019sAvengers: Endgame, a movie that grossed more than $2.5 billion dollars.
As to whether she’ll show up beforeDoomdayin 2026? Perez,a known Marvel insider, says that the possibility is very real, though doubtful. When asked that question via his monthly Discord chat, he had this to say:

Do you think we could see Captain Marvel soon, maybe in likeSpider-Man 4 , Captain America 4andShang-chi 2since Brie Larson’s best friend is directing I know that he’s never directed a movie without her in it, so it’ll be cool to see her have a moment with Spider-Man.
Alex Perez:I’d wouldn’t be surprised if she showed up inSpider-Man 4tbh, however, your best bet for the next appearance will be inAvengers: Doomsday, where she’ll be one of the main characters in that movie.
Will Brie Larson Return as Captain Marvel?
Having already portrayed the character of Captain Marvel four times,Larson has become synonymous with Carol Danvers, so it’s hard to imagine that anyone else would step into the role at this point. That being said,she has been coy about her future in the MCU, responding to various interview questions over the last year by giving non-answers that don’t reveal a lot of information. It’s all part and parcel with being a Marvel actor, however, so that isn’t to say that she won’t return to the franchise, it just means that, as of this writing, nothing has been confirmed.
Will the MCU Replace Captain Marvel?
Following the box office disappointment of The Marvels, will the MCU downplay Captain Marvel, or should they rebrand Brie Larson’s hero?
Thus far, the biggest surprise reveal when it comes toDoomsdayhappened at SDCC earlier this year, when it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning not as Iron Man,but as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom,an announcement that left many people stunned. The Fantastic Four will also show up after getting their own movie in 2025, as will Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, who hasn’t been seen since 2022sMultiverse of Madness. The Thunderbolts will also make an appearance, though at this point it’s unclear if it will be the entire team, or just certain members, as Kevin Feige has remained tight-lipped on that front, waiting until their feature film debut, also in 2025.
