Around this time last year, Syfy debuted its new series12 Monkeys, based on the hit 1995 movie of the same name, which became a hit with fans and critics alike. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit longer forSeason 2to roll around, with the network announcing earlier this month that the second season will debut Monday, April 18 at 9 PM ET. Earlier today, the network released the first trailer for12 Monkeys Season 2, which reveals that the show is shifting back in time to World War II.
In theSeason 1finale, Cassie Railly (Amanda Schull) was sent forward into time, to the year 2043, but this season, she’ll be reuniting with James Cole (Aaron Stanford) in the past. This trailer features Jones (Barbara Sukowa) revealing to Cassie that she must go back in time to help James, who is on a mission duringWorld War II. Fan-favorite Emily Hampshire is also back as Jennifer Goines, who Cassie reveals is a “pain in the ass in any time period.”
Also returning this season are Kirk Acevedo as Ramse andTodd Stashwickas Deacon.12 Monkeysfollows the journey of Cole, atime travelersent back in time from a dark, hellish future to prevent it from ever happening. Joining forces in the present with Dr. Railly, Cole must defeat a centuries-old malevolent organization known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As Cole, Railly and their unlikely allies get closer to the truth, they’ll learn there are deadly consequences for all ofhistory… and time itself.
Terry Matalasand Travis Fickett (Nikita), co-executive producers and writers of thepilot, also serve as executive producers and showrunners. Atlas Entertainment’sRichard Suckle(Suicide Squad,American Hustle,The International) andCharles Roven(Suicide Squad,Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,American Hustle) will continue to executive produce with Atlas' Jake Kurily producing. Atlas Entertainment andRovenproduced the original12 Monkeysfilm, which starredBruce Willis,Brad PittandMadeleine Stowe, on which the series is based.
Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galactica) will also join the series as a guest star for a four episode arc, playing Dr. Vance Eckland, a charismatic and intelligent scientist from the future. He’s a comrade of Dr. Jones' working alongside her at the temporal facility – who reveals that they may have a closer relationship than first meets the eye.
